News: UK Identity and Passport Service (IPS) Also Online

UK Public Records including birth records, death records, marriage records and divorce records are in the process of being being fully digitized to they will be available to the public online. The plan to digitize records was revealed by the Identity and Passport Service (IPS). As part of the plan, UK citizens would be able to apply for passports and check the status of their applications online.

As reported by computing.co.uk, the IPS reports that about half of the UK birth, death, adoption and marriage records have been digitized already. The IPS is currently streamlining its information databases to ensure easy access to accurate information.

I have a ancestor who’s wife was deported to Australia in 1852 with her 18MTH son and mother leaving her husband my gt gt gt grandfather looking after 3 children under 6 she remarried 12mths later in Hamilton Tasmania in 1853 and him 15mths later in south Yorkshire was their marriage in 1846 void due to deportation or was both marriages bigamous even though they took place in church this is very puzzling as I cant seem to find any records that start before 1858 I’m sure other people must have encountered same problem

    1. Denise, using a genealogy service or using the UK national archives resources might be a good place to source UK vital records that date before 1850.
