The public records of Ross-shire, Scotland are located in Inverness, Scotland at the Highland Archive and Registration Centre. The registration of births, deaths, marriages, and more is available to be researched as well as other records that may be required.

Scotland is divided into registration districts. These districts maintain records on all births, deaths, and marriages and civil partnerships. Ross-shire is found in the Highland District which has its main office in Inverness. There are many services that this office offers.

They offer ancestry research. Using statutory registers and computerized access to records of Scotland’s People they are able to provide information about births, deaths and marriages. The records of Scotland’s People include records dating from 1553-1854 and Census records from 1841 to 1901. Getting assistance with these searches are accomplished by booking an appointment at one of the designated offices in Inverness, Dingwall, Portree, Fort William Thurso or Wick. If unable to visit one of the offices they do conduct searches via postal services as well. The fees vary depending on the type of search required. Contact the office for additional information on required information as well as the fees.

They also provide information on approved venues for civil marriages and civil partnerships. Individuals are required to contact the registration office about legal preliminaries of marriage or civil partnership registration. There are hours that approved venues conduct ceremonies. Be sure to understand the requirements and contact the registration office to arrange the attendance of a registrar.

The registration office also records and releases birth records. Parents of any child born must provide required documents within twenty one days after the birth of the child. After they have the necessary information they give an Abbreviated Birth Certificate to the parents that shows only the child’s name and the place and date of his/her birth. There is a fee for a full birth certificate which can be purchased through the same office.

The office also records name changes, deaths, marriages, and they supply certificates that are required with adequate documentation. Contact the Head Office for Highland Council Area for the requirements for requiring certifications of birth, death, marriages, and more.
