Why Death Records are Important for Genealogy

Posted on

Death records can help you trace your ancestry back through the generations.  Death certificates usually show similar information to a birth certificate, but also have additional details about someone’s life.  Death records list the date, place, and cause of death. Death records often also show the day of birth, where someone was born, the names of the parents, the person’s job or occupation and the name of any spouses.  This information can be very important, especially if you are trying to find a grave or claim an inheritance. This information is recorded clearly by the government, so official death records can definitely help you find out more about your genealogy.
