This library has some records that can assist with research. These include local newspapers and photographs. There are also historical programs recreating historical events and times, as well as programs to teach patrons how to conduct family research.
Below is a list of some of the historical documents that can be accessed at this library:
• Tax records from the various parishes dating to the late 1600s
• Around 11,000 photographs of West Lothian
• Voter registries dating from 1869 to the present
• Records of the value of property dating from 1855 to the present
• Various local newspapers:
o Edinburg Evening Courant dating from 1780 to 1812
o West Lothian Herald and Post dating from 1996 to the present
o Lothian Express dating from 1893 to 1921
o Bo’ness Journal and Linlithgowshire Advertiser dating from 1879 to 1950
o Midlothian Advertiser dating from 1906 to 1967
o Linlithgow Gazette dating from 1891 to the present
o Courier dating from 1873 to the present
• Over 1,000 maps
• Records of gravestones in West Lothian

Information:
This society was founded to assist people who were doing genealogical and family research in West Lothian. Some of the resources are available only to members of the society. Anyone can join the society, including people who do not live in the U.K.
Some benefits of becoming a society member include, receiving the three journal editions that are published yearly, access to portions of the website and forums that are unavailable to non-members, and access to the experience and expertise of other society members.
The personal acquisitions of the society are located in a room in the Local History Library. For a list of items held there, see above.
